Data Sources & Methodology
How we collect, verify, and maintain the data behind RE UP Report.
Our No-Fake-Data Policy
Every number on this platform comes from a real, verifiable source. We do not fabricate, estimate, or round data.
If we don't have a verified price for a service, we show a dash — not a guess. If a shop doesn't list a price publicly, we note that. Integrity is the foundation of everything we publish.
Where the Data Comes From
We pull pricing, service menus, and shop details from multiple public sources and cross-reference them for accuracy:
- Booksy — Appointment platform used by many Charlotte barbershops. We pull published service menus and pricing directly from shop profiles.
- Squire — Barbershop management platform. Service pricing and barber profiles are sourced from public booking pages.
- Fresha — Booking platform with publicly listed service pricing. We capture menus as they appear on each shop's Fresha page.
- Shop Websites — Many barbershops list pricing directly on their own websites. We check these regularly and record them as-is.
- Yelp — Used for shop details, ratings, review counts, and price range indicators. Not used as a primary pricing source unless the shop itself posted the menu.
- Google Business Profiles — Ratings, hours, location data, and any pricing listed in the business profile are captured from Google.
How Prices Are Verified
Every price point in our database goes through a verification process:
- We pull the price from at least one public source (booking platform, website, or business profile).
- Where possible, we cross-reference with a second source. If Booksy says $35 and the shop's website says $35, we have high confidence.
- If sources conflict, we use the most recently updated source and flag the discrepancy internally for follow-up.
- Prices are recorded exactly as listed. We do not average, round, or adjust individual shop prices.
Aggregate statistics (like "Avg Men's Cut: $37") are calculated from verified individual prices and are clearly labeled as averages.
How Often Data Is Updated
Our data collection runs on a regular cycle:
- Pricing data is reviewed and refreshed on a weekly basis. Most barbershops change prices once or twice per year, so weekly checks catch any updates promptly.
- Shop profiles (ratings, barber counts, hours) are updated weekly.
- Social media metrics are pulled weekly from public Instagram profiles.
- New shop additions happen as we discover them. If a new barbershop opens in Charlotte, we aim to add it within one update cycle.
The "Updated" date shown in the market snapshot bar reflects the last time the dataset was refreshed.
